2013 NFL Combine: Fastest 40 time will get contract offer from Adidas

The player who runs the fastest 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine won't just have bragging rights this year, he'll also get a contract offer from Adidas.

The shoe company took out a full page ad in Saturday's Indianapolis Star announcing the unique deal. Adidas spokesperson Michael Ehrlich confirmed the contract offer to ESPN.com, but declined to say how much the contract would be worth.

Ironically, players aren't even allowed to wear Adidas on game day because the company doesn't have a marketing deal with the NFL. UnderArmour and Nike are currently the only brands that can be worn during games.

Texas wide receiver Marquise Goodwin is probably the early favorite in the clubhouse to run the fastest 40. Goodwin has been timed as fast as 4.26 and said on Friday that his goal is to break Chris Johnson's combine record of 4.24. The unofficial combine record is held by former Auburn running back Bo Jackson, who ran a 4.12 in 1986.

Speaking of Auburn, a darkhorse for the fastest 40 time is Tiger running back Onterio McCalebb. McCalebb has been timed as fast as 4.28 in the 40.

One player who won't get the Adidas contract offer, but is worth mentioning, is Arkansas Pine-Bluff offensive lineman Terron Armstead. Armstead ran a 4.71 40 on Saturday, which is the fastest time ever run by an offensive linemen at the combine.

Beside Adidas, the player with the fastest 40 time may also get a contract offer from the Raiders. At least that's what's happened recently. Since 2009, the Raiders have drafted three players who ran the fastest 40 at the combine: DeMarcus Van Dyke (2011, 4.28), Jacoby Ford (2010, 4.28) and Darrius Heyward-Bey (2009, 4.30).
