| Ponder entrenched as starter: During the early part of the offseason, the Vikings repeatedly expressed their confidence in quarterback Christian Ponder. That stance has not changed even with the signing of Matt Cassel earlier this month. "Christian Ponder is our starting quarterback. Matt knows that; he knew it when we went through the acquisition," coach Leslie Frazier told the team's official website. "If something were to happen to Christian injury-wise, we have a quality backup who can step in and do a great job for us. Christian just needs to continue to improve just like we all expect him to, but he’s our starting quarterback." (Updated 3/23/13) |

| Ponder said he plans to participate in all of Minnesota's offseason activities after dealing with a case of bursitis in his elbow and triceps that kept him sidelined for the team's playoff game last year. With that healed, the 25-year-old will now look to begin building a rapport with Greg Jennings, who was signed to take over as the teams' No. 1 receiver following the trade of Percy Harvin. Effectively playing with Harvin for the first eight games of the year Ponder totaled 1,743 yards on 171 of 262 passing (65.2 percent) for 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Without Harvin, Ponder had 1,192 yards on 129 of 221 passing (58.3) for eight touchdowns and five interceptions. Ponder will remain a limited Fantasy option heading into the 2013 season and is best served as a possible replacement off waivers in most formats. (Updated 3/23/13). |
