Colin Kaepernick effective early against the Cowboys
by Chris Cwik |

San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick put on a clinic early against the Cowboys.

Colin Kaepernick ready to put the preseason behind him Week 1
by Chris Cwik |

San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick is in for a great matchup Week 1 against the Cowboys.

Kaepernick had a rocky preseason. He completed 54.5 percent of his passes, and failed to get his team into the end zone. In fairness, Kaepernick didn’t receive a ton of playing time, tossing just 22 passes in three preseason games.

That might not matter Week 1, as the Cowboys were awful on defense last season. Dallas allowed 24.75 Fantasy points against opposing quarterbacks. That was the second-worst rate in the league last season. While the club attempted to address some defensive concerns during the offseason, they be without cornerback Orlando Scandrick for this game.

While Kaepernick hasn’t looked great in the preseason, the team seemed to set him up for a bigger role during the offseason. Michael Crabtree will be fully healthy entering the year, and the team added Stevie Johnson as the third wide receiver. While Frank Gore and company should be solid in the backfield, Kaepernick will keep defenses on their toes with his rushing ability.

Kaepernick’s draft position varied based on how Fantasy owners felt about him entering the season. He’s set up to make a lot of owners look smart Week 1 against Dallas.

Colin Kaepernick describes 2013 foot injury
by Larry Hartstein |

49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick dealt with a significant foot injury last season that severely curtailed his running, according to the Sacramento Bee. In a Week 2 loss in Seattle, Kaepernick suffered a chipped bone on his forefoot and a ruptured capsule in the ball of his foot.

Kaepernick ran nine times for 87 yards against the Seahawks, then did not top 20 rushing yards again until Week 7. Coach Jim Harbaugh said the team did not call as many read-option plays because "we didn't want to see Colin get hit 12 times a game."

Kaepernick said the injury "was something that was always there. Never spoke about it, never said anything about it because you're a football player, you play through pain. Unless you're being carted off, you should be on the field. If it's something you can play through, that's what you do."
