Saints' Drew Brees overcomes early mistakes to secure first road win
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Saints quarterback Drew Brees worked past a couple of early turnovers and scored two touchdowns to lead his team to their first road win of the season Week 9 at Carolina.

Brees had two turnovers over the first 10 minutes of the game. He was picked off by Dwan Edwards on a tipped pass from Kenny Stills on the opening drive of the night. On the ensuing drive, he lost a fumble after Erik Lorig got pushed back into him while trying to pass protect.

Brees bounced back with a 1-yard touchdown pass to Jimmy Graham with three seconds remaining in the first half. He gambled on a 4th and goal in the third quarter, leaping over the goal line for a 1-yard score -- his first rushing touchdown of the season.

Brees compiled 297 yards through the air while completing 24 of 34 passes. He added one touchdown and one interception, registering a 94.9 passer rating. He was sacked four times and rushed for 2 yards and a score on four carries in a 28-10 victory.

The Saints will host the 49ers in Week 10.

Drew Brees shows he's still got it
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer

Go figure. Drew Brees finally had a performance befitting of Drew Brees against a Packers team that entered Week 8 having allowed the lowest passer rating of any team.

Of course, even though it was his first three-touchdown game this season, he now has six straight games with at least two touchdowns and four straight with at least 300 passing yards. Hard to say he's anything less than elite with those kinds of numbers, even if he hasn't quite performed up to his usual standards.

Obviously, he's a start for Thursday's game at Carolina. For more of my takeaways from Week 8 check out my latest post to the Fantasy Football Today blog.

Drew Brees delivers best performance of 2014
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com

Saints quarterback Drew Brees put it all together Week 8 against the Packers and produced his first three-touchdown performance this season. Brees did not throw an incompletion in the second half, hitting all 11 of his throws, as New Orleans scored 28 points.

Brees finished 27 of 32 (84.4 percent) for 311 yards and three scores with no turnovers. After not throwing a touchdown pass in the first half, Brees tossed three in the first 20 minutes of the second half. He hit speedster Brandin Cooks with a picture-perfect 50-yarder, found tight end Jimmy Graham from 22 yards out and flicked an easy 2-yarder to tight end Josh Hill.

Brees posted a 138.4 passer rating and added a 6-yard rush. He'll visit the Panthers for Thursday Night Football.

Drew Brees still your starting quarterback
by Chris Towers | CBSSports.com

It hasn't quite been vintage Drew Brees, but the veteran's performance over the last handful of games for the Saints should be enough to alleviate Fantasy owners' concerns about his value.

Brees tossed two more touchdowns while racking up 342 yards through the air Sunday, en route to his fourth 20-plus point game in a row. Sure, in the past, 24 Fantasy points might have been a pretty ho-hum outing from Brees in a dome, but it is better than Fantasy owners' worst-case scenarios after he posted just 17 and 19 Fantasy points in the first two games of the season.

Brees has pretty clearly taken a step back this season, with 11 touchdowns to seven interceptions representing his worst ratio since 2010. Still, even a subpar Drew Brees is a starting Fantasy option, so don't let your disappointment in him cause you to overreact. Brees should be in your lineup for Week 8 against the Packers.

Drew Brees passes for 340-plus yards for third straight week
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com

Saints quarterback Drew Brees hit 28 of 45 throws for 342 yards and two touchdowns in the Week 7 loss at Detroit, marking the third straight game he's passed for at least 340 yards. However, Brees threw late over the middle to wideout Marques Colston with just over three minutes left and was picked off by Lions safety Glover Quin.

With tight end Jimmy Graham hampered by a shoulder injury, Brees hooked up with deep threat Kenny Stills for a 46-yard touchdown in the second quarter. Earlier, Brees found fullback Austin Johnson for a 13-yard score.

Brees, who had a 13-yard rush, has thrown exactly two touchdowns in five straight games. He'll play the Packers in Week 8.
