Drew Brees believes in Joe Lombardi
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com

Saints quarterback Drew Brees believes new Lions offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi is going to bring out the best in Matthew Stafford, according to mlive.com.

Lombardi worked as Brees' quarterbacks coach for five seasons before joining the Lions. Brees said he sees some similarities between the Lions and Saints personnel, and believes Lombardi will find a way to make things work in Detroit. Brees added that he knew Lombardi would be in line to get a coordinator job. "You can kind of tell when assistant coaches are just kind of ready for that next step -- to be a coordinator, to be a playcaller," Brees said.

Drew Brees open to restructuring his deal
by Chris Cwik | CBSSports.com

Saints quarterback Drew Brees is open to restructuring his deal.

Brees will be 35, and will count as $18.4 million against the team's cap next season. He said he'll do whatever it takes to help the team. In order to restructure his deal, the team would likely have to add years to his deal. With the Saints projected to be $12 million over the cap, they'll need to be creative in order to make things work.

Drew Brees feels he's on 'upward tick'
by Larry Hartstein | CBSSports.com

Saints quarterback Drew Brees, who turns 35 on Wednesday, said he feels like he's on an upward tick in his career, reports the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Brees has thrown for 5,100-plus yards in three straight seasons.

He told the paper he felt as good in 2013 as he ever had and that he looks forward to playing for a long time. If the Saints ask him to restructure his contract to sign free agents, Brees said he'll do "whatever it takes to help the team win."

Drew Brees overcomes awful first half to put up strong numbers
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

Anyone who suggested based on halftime statistics that Saints quarterback Drew Brees would post the final numbers he achieved in the Saturday playoff game at Seattle would not have been believed.

Brees was just 5 of 12 for 34 yards at intermission. Considering the brilliance of the Seahawks defense, the ferocity of the rain and the impotence of tight end Jimmy Graham, he appeared doomed to mediocrity. But a tremendous second half in which he hooked up 10 times with favorite wideout Marques Colston resulted in him finishing 24 of 43 with 309 yards and a touchdown.

Clearly bothered by the conditions, Brees suffered through a miserable second quarter in which he missed on six of eight attempts and threw for just 15 yards. He found his rhythm in the second half and sizzled in the fourth quarter with 188 yards passing in catch-up mode. But it was his terrible start that forced him to play from behind the entire game and doomed his team to defeat.

Drew Brees delivers in second half of playoff win
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Saints quarterback Drew Brees got off to a slow start but managed to lead his team to a 10 play, 35-yard drive which led to a Shayne Graham game-winning field goal as time expired, in a 26-24 victory over the Eagles in the NFC Wild Card round of the playoffs.

Brees was intercepted twice and was held out of the end zone in the first half. He bounced back with a 24-yard touchdown strike to Lance Moore with 10:08 remaining in the third quarter. He completed 20 of 30 passes for 250 yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions. He completed passes to 10 different players. He was sacked twice and also rushed for 13 yards on five carries.
