Packers' Aaron Rodgers: Sits out preseason opener
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodgers was a healthy scratch for Thursday's preseason opener against the Eagles.

Rodgers suited up and took part in warmups prior to Thursday's contest, but he was in sweats when the game began, as head coach Mike McCarthy opted not to take any risks with his starting quarterback. Rodgers played briefly in just one of the Packers' four preseason games a year ago, and he figures to be on a similar plan this season.

Packers' Aaron Rodgers: Unlikely to play Thursday
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Rodgers appears doubtful to play in Thursday's preseason opener against the Eagles, ESPN's Rob Demovsky reports.

Rodgers featured in just one preseason game last year, so his expected absence from Green Bay's opening exhibition tilt comes as no surprise. Brett Hundley took the first snap with the team's starting offense Monday, suggesting he'll take Rodgers' place versus Philadelphia.

Packers' Aaron Rodgers: Could play into his 40s
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Packers coach Mike McCarthy believes Rodgers can play into his 40s, ESPN.com's Rob Demovsky reports.

The 33-year-old superstar changed his diet last offseason in an effort to maximize his longevity, suggesting he at least plans to play deep into his 30s, if not his 40s. His skill set should allow for graceful aging, though a recurrence of the concussion issues that plagued him earlier in his career could throw a wrench in his plans. As for the more immediate future, Rodgers enjoyed a healthy offseason and should enter Week 1 with his best group of pass catchers since the days of Greg Jennings and Donald Driver. The team did lose two starting linemen (guard T.J. Lang and center JC Tretter) in free agency, but TE Martellus Bennett should be an upgrade on Jared Cook, joining the wideout trio of Jordy Nelson, Davante Adams and Randall Cobb to give Rodgers plenty of options. The team also used draft picks in the fourth, fifth and seventh rounds on running backs, hoping to add some power to complement Ty Montgomery's prowess as a receiver.

Packers' Aaron Rodgers: Struggles until garbage time in NFC championship loss
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Rodgers completed 27 of 45 passes for 287 yards with three touchdowns and an interception while rushing four times for 46 yards in Sunday's 44-21 NFC championship game loss to Atlanta.

The Rodgers-led Packers offense was shut out in the first half, and couldn't break the ice until he found Davante Adams from two yards out to make it 31-7 with 9:19 left in the third quarter. He later added touchdowns to Jordy Nelson and Jared Cook, but that production was much too little too late. Rodgers was intercepted by Ricardo Allen in the first half, and had another pick reversed by the replay official on his second scoring drive. While the star quarterback did a great job of running the table to get his team to this point following a 4-6 start, there's no doubt the better team prevailed Sunday.

Packers' Aaron Rodgers: Heads into weekend with illness
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Rodgers said Friday that he's dealing with a slight illness, NFL.com reports, but he does not have an injury designation ahead of Sunday's NFC championship game against the Falcons.

Mason Crosby missed Wednesday's practice due to illness and wideout Jordy Nelson (ribs) was told to stay home while sick Friday, so something's clearly going around Green Bay's locker room. Nonetheless, that bug isn't considered cause for concern, as Rodgers said that rest and fluids would help his system be fine in time for Sunday's kickoff. That sentiment is supported by Rodgers being absent from Green Bay's injury report, but the Packers will still certainly hope he returns to health as soon as possible.
