Chargers' James Jones: Solid in preseason win
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Jones recorded two catches for 21 yards in the Chargers preseason win over the Cardinals.

The Chargers reacted quickly to the season-ending injury Stevie Johnson (knee) suffered during the first week of training camp, signing Jones to provide depth at the wide receiver position. While the 32-year-old likely won't earn a starting role now that both Keenan Allen and Travis Benjamin appear healthy heading into the season, Jones has developed a bit of chemistry with starting QB Philip Rivers --- enough to warrant a roster spot with the team. The veteran probably won't see the field enough to put up consistent fantasy numbers as it stands now, but he could be a solid fantasy candidate if injuries affect the top of the depth chart.

James Jones: Signing with Chargers
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Jones will sign with the Chargers, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports.

With Stevie Johnson (torn meniscus) likely out for at least the first few weeks of the regular season, the Chargers brought in some veteran wideouts and ultimately settled on Jones. Though he did lead an injury-plagued Packers offense in receiving yards last year, the 32-year-old wideout previously appeared to be on the NFL fringe, having been cut by the Raiders and Giants prior to the season. Jones could compete with Dontrelle Inman and Tyrell Williams to serve as San Diego's No. 3 wideout while Johnson is sidelined.

James Jones: Set to visit Chargers
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

Jones and Brian Hartline will visit with the Chargers this week, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports.

With Stevie Johnson (torn meniscus) facing an extended absence, the Chargers are checking out a couple of veterans who could provide depth behind the starting duo of Keenan Allen and Travis Benjamin. Despite leading the Packers in receiving yards last season, Jones will likely need to fight for a roster spot regardless of where he lands. Prior to rejoining the Packers, he was released by both the Raiders and Giants.

James Jones: Unlikely to be back in Green Bay
by RotoWire Staff | Special to CBSSports.com

Packers head coach Mike McCarthy confirmed that the team is not focused on re-signing Jones, Weston Hodkiewicz of the Green Bay Press-Gazette reports.

Released by both the Raiders and Giants last year, Jones temporarily revived his career after landing back in Green Bay, posting a 50-890-8 receiving line in 16 games. He shouldn't have too much trouble finding a new home, but he'll likely have to prove that he's worthy of a roster spot when not playing with Aaron Rodgers. Soon to be 32 years old, Jones is unlikely to establish fantasy value outside of Green Bay. For their part, the Packers seem happy to move forward with Jeff Janis and Jared Abbrederis competing for playing time alongside Randall Cobb and Jordy Nelson (knee).

Packers' James Jones: Reels in seven passes against Washington
by RotoWire Staff | RotoWire

James Jones hauled in seven of 11 targets for 81 yards in Sunday's win over Washington.

Jones helped set up Green Bay's first touchdown of the game by nabbing a 34-yard strike down the seam. Jones came out of nowhere to score six touchdowns in the seasons' first six games, but scored just twice afterward. He still managed to lead the team in receiving yards and was the top target in Green Bay's Week 16 loss to their Division Round opponent, Arizona. During that game, Jones caught five of 11 targets for 46 yards.
