Broncos WR Wes Welker makes game-saving fumble recovery
by Igor Mello | CBSSports.com

Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker didn't have a busy night, but made a key fumble recovery in Week 8 against the Chargers.

With Denver ahead by 14 points in the fourth quarter, his teammate Emmanuel Sanders was stripped by Eric Weddle. He made a scrappy recovery to maintain possession. Welker was limited to only two grabs for 5 yards on two targets in a 35-21 victory. He's been targeted only six times over the last three games.

He'll look to get back on track against his former team, the Patriots, in Week 9.

Wes Welker shows he still matters
by Scott White | Senior Fantasy Writer

Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker looked like a lost cause in Fantasy after getting just one target, which he converted for an 8-yard reception, Week 6 at the Jets, his starting rate dropping to just 30 percent.

So naturally, he delivered his first touchdown of the season Week 7 at San Francisco -- and not on one of his usual underneath routes either. He broke free down the left sideline on a mid-range toss that he took 39 yards for the score in the first quarter.

Of course, he had just three catches for 50 yards in all, which isn't exactly the stuff of legends, and he was targeted on just those three passes. Maybe you'd be a sucker for buying into him again.

Then again, quarterback Peyton Manning was so efficient with his passes in Week 7, completing 22 of 26 for 318 yards, that no player had a high number of targets relative to his receptions. Demaryius Thomas, who caught eight passes for 171 yards, had only nine.

Welker played 80 percent of the snaps -- more than Thomas, actually -- for the most productive passing offense in the game. His yardage may be too limited for standard-league use, but he's going to be involved enough to remain relevant in points-per-reception leagues.

Wes Welker catches touchdown in Broncos' Week 7 win
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com

Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker caught all three of his targets for 50 yards and a touchdown in his team's 42-17 win over the 49ers in Week 7.

Welker was on the receiving end of Peyton Manning's record-tying 508th career touchdown in the first quarter, doing most of the work on a 39-yard score that saw the receiver reach the pylon before being forced out of bounds. Welker has managed a total of four targets in the last two weeks after seeing nine targets in each of his first two games, but he was able to score for the first time this season Sunday. Welker and the Broncos will square off with the Chargers on Thursday in Week 8.

Time to give up on Wes Welker?
by Dave Richard | Senior Fantasy Writer

Wes Welker was barely used in the Broncos win over the Jets in Week 6. And I mean he was barely used -- he had one catch on one target for 8 yards.

I thought he'd be more involved as a middle-of-the-field target against weak Jets inside cornerbacks. That didn't happen. What also hasn't happened is Welker finding the end zone -- in three games he's posted 14 catches for 126 yards and no scores. The difference between this game and the two prior were targets: He had nine in each of his past two.

It's pretty much a knee-jerk reaction to cut Welker from your Fantasy team based on his numbers on Sunday, but if you're in a standard league then you'll be hard pressed to have the confidence to start Welker anytime. If it's a small league (10 or fewer teams) then you could consider cutting him if someone off waivers who you can use right away. It's also okay to just bench him and wait and see what happens in the next few weeks but the Broncos face the 49ers, Chargers and Patriots in their next three. You might end up benching Welker when he finally breaks out, but we can't say with any confidence when that might be. Consider all options with Welker moving forward.

Broncos WR Wes Welker held to one catch Sunday
by Marty Gitlin | CBSSports.com

The usual suspects piled up big numbers Sunday for the Broncos - but there was one exception. And that was wideout Wes Welker .

Welker caught just one pass for eight yards. He was also held without a touchdown for the third time in three games this season.

He will try to rectify that shortcoming against the 49ers next Sunday.
