Ugly first half plagues Ryan Fitzpatrick in Week 3 loss
by Michael Hurcomb |

Texans quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick rebounded from an ugly first half Sunday at N.Y. Giants, but his strong second-half performance wasn't enough as Houston lost 30-17. Fitzpatrick completed 20 of 34 passes for 289 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions, while rushing for 34 yards and one touchdown on seven carries.

Fitzpatrick had a horrendous first half, as he completed just 4 of 13 passes for 39 yards and two interceptions. He had a 0.6 quarterback rating as New York jumped out to a 14-0 halftime lead.

Though, the veteran quarterback was much better in the second half, passing for 250 yards, which included a 44-yard touchdown pass to Damaris Johnson in the third quarter that cut the Giants' lead to 17-10. Fitzpatrick added a 1-yard rushing touchdown with two minutes left in the fourth quarter.

Sunday was the 10th time in Fitzpatrick's career he threw at least three interceptions. He had no interceptions in his first two games this season. The Texans are back in action Week 4 vs. Buffalo.

Ryan Fitzpatrick throws a pair of touchdown passes in Week 2 win
by Igor Mello |

Texans quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick fired a pair of passing touchdowns and did enough to manage the game, leading his team to a convincing 30-14 Week 2 win at Oakland.

Fitzpatrick hooked up with none other than J.J. Watt for a 1-yard touchdown strike on the opening drive of the game. He hooked up with DeAndre Hopkins for a 12-yard touchdown strike in the third quarter. He finished the game with 139 yards through the air while completing 14 of 19 pass attempts. He added two touchdowns and no interceptions, registering a 129.1 passer rating.

Fitzpatrick has two touchdowns and 345 passing yards through his first two games. He will travel to New York for a Week 3 showdown against the Giants.

Ryan Fitzpatrick wins in debut as Texans' starting QB
by Michael Hurcomb |

An ESPN report surfaced prior to kickoff Sunday that Texans quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick was already on the hot seat even before taking a regular-season snap. Well, for at least one week Fitzpatrick has quieted the critics after leading Houston to a 17-6 win Week 1 vs. Washington.

Fitzpatrick completed 14 of 22 passes for 206 yards and one touchdown. He also had four carries for 10 yards. Sunday was also the first time in six games dating back to last season Fitzpatrick avoided throwing an interception.

Fitzpatrick put Houston ahead for good when he connected with DeAndre Hopkins for a 76-yard touchdown with 4:15 left in the second quarter that put Houston ahead 7-6. It was the third-longest passing touchdown of Fitzpatrick's career.

The Texans will travel to face the Raiders in Week 2.

Report: EJ Manuel, Ryan Fitzpatrick already on hot seat
by Michael Hurcomb |

Bills quarterback EJ Manuel and Texans quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick are already on the hot seat, according to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. The Bills and Texans won't be hesitant to turn to their backup quarterbacks Kyle Orton and Ryan Mallett, if Manuel and Fitzpatrick struggle.

Ryan Fitzpatrick gets first shot at keeping QB job Sunday
by Michael Hurcomb |

Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick's first career snaps as an NFL quarterback came nearly a decade ago in NRG Stadium (then Reliant Stadium), when he relieved Rams quarterback Jamie Martin in a 33-27 win at Houston Week 12 of the 2005 season. Fitzpatrick completed 19 of 30 passes for 310 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.

Fitzpatrick has made three appearances in his career at NRG Stadium, but all three have come as an opponent. On Sunday, Fitzpatrick will be making his first regular-season start as the home quarterback, as he will lead the Texans against the Redskins.

Quarterbacks averaged 258.4 passing yards and 20 Fantasy points per week against Washington last season. Though, down the stretch the Redskins defense was much improved, as quarterbacks averaged just 13.2 Fantasy points over the final five games. While the Redskins have a rookie head coach in Jay Gruden, defensive coordinator Jim Haslett is still on staff and entering his fifth season in his current role.

Fitzpatrick by no stretch of the imagination had a strong preseason, completing 58.1 percent of his passes (25 of 43) for 232 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. The Texans recently traded for Ryan Mallett, who is now listed as Fitzpatrick's backup, so there is plenty of pressure to perform.

Fitzpatrick has had some good offensive spurts in his career, but he never seems to have sustained success. He is at best a No. 2 Fantasy quarterback heading into Week 1.
